Think Local Milk
Local Milk. Not so long ago small dairy farms in the Hudson Valley and Central New York thrived, but in recent years the few family-owned farms that remain are struggling for survival. They face stiff pricing competition from large dairy cooperatives, almost all of which inject their cows with rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone) to increase milk production.

rGBH is strongly linked to illness in cows, and while the FDA does not acknowledge a direct impact on human health, many in the medical community disagree. rBGH is known to cause an increase in another hormone called IGF-1, which is associated with a variety of cancers in people. Also, the overuse of antibiotics to treat sick cows allows drug-resistant strains of bacteria to develop that may ultimately infect humans.

Regardless of any dispute in the medical community about the impact of rBGH on humans, one thing is clear: cows that roam the pastures of small dairy farms are generally healthier than cows that live in large, cramped quarters and rarely see the light of day.

Our milk comes from small, local dairy farms in the Hudson Valley where the cows graze in pastures, are fed a healthy diet and are rBGH and antibiotic free.

Note: because local milk may from time to time be unavailable to us, we may occasionally substitute organic milk instead.
